Things to Do and See

Dance at the Pavilion

Every night of the summer, all the campers and locals get together to dance underneath the stars at the historic Garner Pavilion. This tradition has been going on for over 50 years. The dance brings out the young and the young at heart. If you love to 2-step or want to learn, this is the place to be. The dance goes from sunset to 11:00 PM every night. You can dance under the stars to the songs of Texas favorites like George Strait or Garner classics such as Blackland Farmer and Smokey Mountain Memories. We also have the famous Garner State Park Songs. Come join us for this family fun. There is no alcohol allowed and security is present at all dances.

The first dance begins the week of Spring Break.  A dance is held every night of spring break, again on Easter weekend, and every Saturday until Memorial weekend.  After that....its seven nights a week of good old Garner fun.  The 3rd Saturday of August is the last of the 7 days a week and we return back to Saturdays only until Labor Day.  The Saturday of Labor Day is the last dance until March. The music played at the dance is always from the jukebox and features country music and a little bit of oldies.

Putt-Putt Golf

The 18-hole course is located next to the pavilion. It opens daily from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. during the summer. The course is lit for nighttime play during the dance. This is great fun for all ages. Off-season group events and group rates are available.  During the off-season weekends, putt-putt is offered out of the gift shop or park store.  See "Concessions & Rentals" for more informatin.

Hiking and Biking

Garner has great biking trails (on trail only) and beautiful hiking.  Check out Crystal Cave-be sure to have your flashlight with you!  Have you  been to the top of OLD BALDY?  If not, you don't know what you are missing.  Get on the trail between shelters 12 and 13 in the Pecan Grove camping area and just start going up.  When you get to the top, the view is breathtaking.

Tubing, Kayaking, Paddle Boats & Good Old Fashion Swimming

Rent tubes at the park store (Click here for more information) and float the river.  Remember-it's a real river, not a lazy river-it doesn't go in circles!  Make a plan for meeting whoever is picking you up!

Kayaks and Paddle Boats can be rented at the dam.

Group Rates

Do you have a senior class or boy/girl scout troop wanting to take a trip out to Garner State Park?  Garner Park Concessions offers a variety of group rates.  We offer group rates on all the rental equipment including tubes, bikes, paddleboats, kayaks and putt-putt golf.  Contact the concessions office @830-232-4200 for additional information.
